Model Town Board: Common Mistakes & Confusions

Understand the distinctions behind route choices, road markings and common roundabout mistakes.

Know the difference

Shortest must also be correct

Do not choose a shortcut just because it is shorter. Read the three model town board route rules, including the condition for using a parking zone.

Stop and Give Way differ

At Stop, stop, look right, left and right again, and proceed only if the road is clear. At Give Way, slow down or stop if necessary, then proceed only if safe.

A broken line still requires a safety check

For white broken lane lines, changing lanes or overtaking is allowed only if the road is clear and safe. A continuous white line means no changing lanes or overtaking.

Common roundabout mistakes

  • Approaching the roundabout in wrong lane.
  • Leaving/exiting the roundabout in the wrong lane.
  • Changing lanes on the roundabout.
  • Incorrectly observing the traffic lights.
